HICKORY,
N.C. (June 10) - Hickory Motor Speedway, a good distance away from
the home base of the Southern All Star Asphalt Series, received a
taste of SAS racing Georgia-style. The track and its teams also
received a reminder that auto racing is a team sport.
Ricky Turner’s pit crew made two passes that their driver was
unable to make on the track. That proved to be the winning edge for
Turner as he captured his second SAS win of the season and extended
his lead in the series standing.
On a lap 128 caution, Turner entered the pits trailing Ronnie
Sanders and Jason Hogan. But after three teams made four tire
changes and fuel, it was Turner who took control.
"Beating both Jason and Ronnie out of the pits was
great," said Turner, from Dawsonville, GA. "If I
could get past lapped cars and get back to the front, I knew
they’d have a hard time passing us. I had clear track up ahead of
me running up front. But if one of them had beat us out of the pits,
he might have won the race."
