Ricky Brings Home Another Top Ten

Ricky went into the final USAR Southern Division race at USA International Speedway looking to closeout the 2006 season on a high note.  Ricky and the team had to battle intense heat on and off the track throughout the day to achieve this goal.

The weather for the day was typical Central Florida heat and high humidity, which kept the team trying to stay cool all day.  The two-hour practice session was completed without incident and Ricky was very pleased with his Williams Bros. Lumber Company Chevrolet.  With a good car under him, Ricky was able to put the #27 solidly in the field with an 11th place starting spot.

When the green flag fell on the race, Ricky was able to settle into a groove early on and patiently ride conserving his equipment and letting the race come to him.  The first 100 laps went by with Ricky hanging around the top 10 and staying out of trouble.  On lap 104, Ricky brought the Williams Bros. Lumber Chevy to pit road for four tires and an air pressure adjustment to correct a tight condition.

Once back on the track, Ricky began trying to make his way through the heavy traffic he found himself in after the pit stop.  During the charge back to the front, Ricky received significant damage to the nose of the Williams Bros. Lumber Chevrolet when a wreck occurred in front of him and Ricky got a piece of it when everyone checked up.  The damage to the nose and radiator duct sent temperatures in the car soaring.  This forced Ricky to pit road on every caution until the end of the race as the pit crew continued to work on the nose to help keep the car cool.  All the added pit stops hindered Ricky’s progress to the front, as he had to re-pass numerous cars after each pit stop.

Ricky was able to soldier on to the finish and bring home the Williams Bros. Lumber Company Chevrolet in the 9th position.  The result was Ricky’s third straight top ten finish.

This was the final USAR race in 2006 so Ricky can keep his rookie status for the 2007 season.  In the short 2006 season, Ricky was able to grab 3 top 10s and 5 top 15s in 5 starts with a brand new car/team.  Ricky would like to thank Williams Bros. Lumber Company and Turner Motorsports for all their support in 2006.

Look for the Williams Bros. Lumber Company/Turner Motorsports Super Late Model to hit a few tracks around the Southeast in the coming months including the Snowball Derby at Five Flags Speedway in December.  Check back here for the latest updates as races get added to the schedule.

Sponsorship opportunities are available for the 2007 season.  Anyone interested in more information on Ricky Turner, please contact pr@rickyturnerracing.com.
