Trouble Strikes Again

Ricky headed to Five Flags Speedway hoping to get his Super Late Model program back on track after a couple of frustrating runs due to rear end troubles.  The rear end problems were fixed, but the bad luck continued.

The afternoon got off to a wet start with rain moving through the Pensacola area which delayed practice.  Once practice got under way, Ricky made several runs in the Williams Bros. Lumber Company Chevrolet.  By the end of practice, Ricky told his crew that the car was as close to perfect as it could be.  This had the entire team excited about their chances for the evening.

With a good car under him, Ricky was able to put down a very good lap in qualifying which landed him 3rd in the 31 car field.  Johnny Brazier took the top spot while Dave Madar III snagged the second starting spot.

As the race got under way, Ricky just cruised around saving his equipment and left side tires during the first half of the race.  The caution flag waved on lap 51 which sent almost the entire field to pit road for two new right side tires.  Ricky was set to restart the race in the 5th position.  As the field dove into turn one after the restart, Scott Carlson, who restarted 6th, made contact with the left rear corner of Ricky's bumper.  The contact sent Ricky up the track and he was unable to save the car.  The right front tire made significant contact with the outside wall which resulted in a broken A-arm.  The night was over for Ricky and the Turner Motorsports team.  The damage was enough that the team decided to head home with the Williams Bros. Lumber Chevrolet, instead of heading to Mobile on Saturday.

Even with the disappointing result at Five Flags Speedway, the weekend wasn't a total lose.  The team learned a lot and made huge gains on the setup of the car.  This should prove very valuable when the team returns to Five Flags Speedway in December for the Snowball Derby.

Next on the schedule for Ricky is the All American 400 November 5th, 2006 in Nashville, TN.  This is a combined event with the CRA Super Series and ASA Late Models.  Both divisions will run a 200 lap race on November 5th.
